Scoop: iPad capable of running Windows

On the eve of the iPad release we came across news that someone has already figured out how to load alternate operating systems on Apple’s newest device. A hacker calling himself “d4-sh1zz” told us over IRC that he has created “a reverse Hackintosh” using the iPad.

“I was tired of all the complaints of the iPad not supporting Flash or PC games, so I was able to come up with kernel and driver hacks to port Windows over to the iPad,” says d4-sh1zz. “Even though some aspects like sound aren’t working right, the proof of concept shows that you aren’t stuck with Apple’s OS.”

Asked how he got his hands on an iPad so quickly, d4-shizz mentioned that he’s “been working with the new iPhone SDK for a while” in order to have the new drivers ready for the iPad’s launch. He also told us that “a buddy at FedEx got me my preordered iPad early so I could test it out.”

This news really opens up opportunities for running all sorts of popular applications on the iPad: Minesweeper, World of Warcraft, Notepad, Visual Studio, MSPaint, QuickBooks…even Flash.
